Have you purchased an audiobook in .MP3 file?
See specific instructions at the bottom of this page.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR OPENING A PROTECTED PUBLICATION FOLLOWING A FIRST PURCHASE
A protected PDF file CANNOT be open with Acrobat reader.
1 - You must have an Adobe ID
If you don't already have one, use the link to go to Adobe's site and create one. It's free! Take note of your login information.
2 - Install a reading program or app on the device you want to use to read.
- What reader program should I use to read the protected digital publication?
As the market for reading apps and programs is constantly changing, we offer a few choices, but by visiting the Apple or Google “stores” one finds several alternatives that may offer functions or features you may be looking for.
TYPE D'APPAREIL | APPLICATIONS SUGGÉRÉES |
---|---|
MAC OR WINDOWS COMPUTER | Adobe Digital Editions |
IPAD and IPHONE (App store) | Bluefire Reader (Not a free app) Pocketbook Reader |
ANDROID TABLETS and SMART PHONES (Google Play) | Pocketbook Reader |
KOBO EREADER/NOOK | Adobe Digital Editions |
KINDLE | Not compatible with locked PDF and EPUB files. |
3 - Authorize your reader using your Adobe ID credentials.
After downloading and installing the chosen program you will usually be automatically prompted to do so.
4 - Download and open your file from your online profile options on the coop website.
- Your links can be found in the MY DIGITAL PRODUCTS section. A link is also sent in the order confirmation email inviting you to connect to your profile.
- It is normal for the downloaded file to initially have an .acsm extension. It will be converted to the purchased format (usually PDF or Epub) when opened in the reader program.
5 - Double-clicking on the file should open it with the correct application.
Note: As soon as you download the URLLink.acsm file, you must open it within 6 hours. After this time, you will have to download it again, otherwise you will get an error message.
Usually this type of publication is protected and therefore requires following the same steps as for a book.
Opening such a publication on a public computer (study room, library, etc.) may be problematic due to usage restrictions related to protection.
Note that the availability of lecture notes varies from co-op to co-op and semester to semester.
Done! You can now start reading.
Following this initial installation, only step 4 and 5 will be required on subsequent purchases from us.
Some additional information :
- As specified on our sites, digital publications are neither exchangeable nor refundable. The only possible exception is when the purchased file is proven to be faulty or unusable.
- Always use the same Adobe account on all your devices. You can link your account to a maximum of 6 devices. The use of a public computer is not recommended.
- The download link for a digital publication is available for a period of 36 months. You can download the file as many times as you want during this period, but we recommend that you keep a copy of your publication on more than one medium / device in case of failure with your main device.
- .acsm files are normally located in your operating system's "Documents" folder or your mobile device's "Downloads" folder.
-
It should be noted that the permissions to copy or print parts of text are managed by the editor. If the latter did not include them when packaging the digital format, it is not possible subsequently to “give” these rights to a client.
- The annotation, highlighting and bookmark functions are rather elements of the chosen reading program and their presence varies from one program to another.
- A “Download problem” link is present under each of your publications in the “My digital products” tab of your profile. This link should be used exclusively to report a technical problem with the file. This form will be sent to our head offices and not to the original merchant. For all questions concerning your transaction (payment, exchange, refund, etc.), you must instead communicate directly with the cooperative that sold you the product.
Read my audio book (.MP3)
The audiobooks sold on our sites do not have a digital lock. These are .MP3 files that can be played by any program or application that supports audio files.
We offer you a method to make your audio book usable on several devices and avoid having to download files locally which can be quite large.
The principle is to use a cloud drive such as Google Drive, One Drive, Dropbox etc.
In our example we will use Google Drive. It would be simple to transpose the same steps for another type of disc.
1- Upload your audio book to Google Drive
If you haven't already, install Google Drive
There are versions for computer, Android and Apple.
You must have access to Google Drive on each device used to download or read your audio book
Manage backup location from your browser
By default your browser will save your downloads in the "My downloads" folder. Instead, we want to be able to choose another location.
We'll use Chrome as an example, but it's similar for other browsers.
- Log in to your Chrome account which you will use to download your audio book
- Open the “Three dots” menu at the top right of the Chrome window
- Choose “Settings”
- In the menu on the left, click "Downloads" and enable "Always ask where to save files"
Download your audiobook from "My Digital Products"
- Go to the cooperative website where you purchased your audiobook
- Log in to the same profile you used to purchase your audiobook
- Choose from your profile options “My digital products”
- Click on the “Download” button corresponding to your audio book
- Save the compressed folder (.zip) directly to Google Drive. We recommend that you create a new folder (for example "my audiobooks")
2-Decompress .zip files
- Navigate to the .zip folder on your Google Drive
- With a right-click choose the “Open with” option
- Choose a suitable program from the list or if you don't have one installed, use "Link more apps" If you need to install an app we recommend "zip Extractor" You will be able to type these search terms to find the app and install it.
- Extract files
3- Play .MP3 files
Once the files are unzipped, it is possible to read them directly from your Google Drive.
For more organized and enjoyable reading, we recommend installing the free CloudBeats app
Otherwise, your device's default program will support the files.
Good listening!
